Royal William Yard Historical Aquarium
Projection Mapping, 2018
Exhibited in 'Machine of the Ocean' exhibition of Royal William Yard Festival, Plymouth
If someone asks me to use one word to describe Plymouth, I will say ‘Marine’. The life in both Royal William Yard and Plymouth cannot live without the ocean. We showed this ocean city by the historical Museum and aquarium. The historical museum records the history of the sea, and the aquarium records the current life in the sea. How about the historical aquarium?
I focused on the objects used in the past of Royal William Yard so I selected 10 typical objects used in the ‘old’ Royal William Yard: the boat, sea chest, weapon, ship cookies, clothes label, barrel, shirt, fish, cow and pig. All the historical objects of the Royal William Yard float on the sea, being peaceful and thoughtful.

Unplanned Barcelona ‘Eixample’ map
Interactive Installation, Flash ActionScript, 2018
Exhibited in 'Media Arts Takeover' exhibition, Plymouth
Rather than a right angle, a chamfered corner is curvered.
Exiample is an urban district in Barcelona. The area has long straight streets, a rigid grid pattern, wide avenues and chamfered corners.
This urban street plan was implemented in the 19th century during the Industrial Revolution by the government. At this time, Barcelona was an industrial hub in Spain. The government wanted to expand and develop their industry and wanted to effectively use all the spaces in the City.
Guy Debord said: 'the secrets of the city are, at a certain level, decipherable. But the personal meaning they have for us is incommunicable'.
On our dérive, we became mesmerised by the buildings, the histories and the way you experience the streets of Exiample. We decided to make an interactive abstract map - an articulation of our experiences - concerning the culture we encountered.
Exiample celebrates the people, the arts, and liveliness of Barcelona. This project attempts to bring the spirit, liveliness, sounds and this area back to Plymouth. Click on the map, follow our experiences, celebrate culture and play some music!

"This is an excellent project – beautifully crafted, engaging and thoughtful. Your presentation brought together details of the city, coding, the sound sculpture lecture, graphics and interaction and elements of the derive, and the Situationists. It was well researched and very well made: well done!"
